Since January I've been following the woes of Boeing and its latest aircraft, the 787. This product is cause extreme heartache for the company from the beginning, there were design issues, supply chain problems, manufacturing woes, and if that wasn't enough the company launched the aircraft only to have a catastrophic battery failure that cause smoke to pour into the cabin, requiring an emergency landing. The FAA suspended all 787 flights, carriers around the world followed suit. Boeing spent close to 200,000 hours engineering a fix, and this week after the FAA conducted extensive testing proclaimed the battery design to be significantly safer than the last version. It has been a treacherous slope for the FAA because Boeing's new design is the first of its kind so there isn't anything to compare the specs to.

Boeing has been modifying their marketing strategy consistency during this ordeal as some clients became irate and purchased aircraft from a competing manufacturer. The company is working feverishly to ensure airlines their plane is safer than ever. At a whopping $206 million per plane, you can easily see how much it costs the company when airlines cancel. Boeing currently has 42 planes on back order, if there are any further mishaps with battery in the next few months, this model could cost Boeing billions of dollars.
